Event
We are in the splendid Pontine Archipelago with the two major islands of Ponza and Ventotene.
Ventotene is a small gem that welcomes many visitors every year, eager to be lulled by the slow rhythm that envelops the town.
With the arrival of July, the whole island eagerly awaits the BIG FISH week, which brings so much energy, joy, and sunniness.
Numerous fishermen from all over Italy arrive.
New friendships are formed, relationships are strengthened, entire families and people of all ages participate, carried away by the engaging rhythm of the event.
In front of the island, fishermen line up for the start of the BIG FISH TOURNAMENT. They head towards the open sea, far from the marine reserve, in search of the majestic swordfish but also imperial needlefish, tuna, albacore, striped fish, and dolphinfish, eager to hear multiple strikes and reels singing in chorus.
Most of the catch is released, and only a small part is brought ashore to be honored at the final dinner of the event.
For cooking enthusiasts, there's the "La Brigata del Big Fish" raw fish competition, where aspiring chefs enjoy preparing a dish that is both beautiful and delicious to present to a qualified jury with food and wine experts, along with the event's splendid godmother Chiara Giallonardo.
The passion for the sea and fishing, together with good cuisine, nightlife, and many smiles and hugs, represent the spirit of BIG FISH, all framed in the enchanting and scenic Roman port with 2000 years of maritime history.
