We all fish the same data
Young researchers and fishermen tell how recreational fishing can contribute to scientific research
Sport and recreational fishing is not just a leisure activity, but can become a fundamental resource for scientific research and sea protection. This panel brings together young researchers who experience the sea also as fishermen or work closely with the fishing world, bringing direct experiences of how data collected during fishing activities can contribute to the knowledge of marine ecosystems. Through concrete examples, it will be shown how reports, observations, measurements, and citizen science projects allow the study of protected species, alien species, and dynamics related to stock management. The dialogue between science and recreational fishing emerges as a key tool to address current sea challenges, promoting collaboration based on trust and knowledge sharing.
The meeting is designed as an open discussion, where the contribution of fishermen is recognized as an active part of the research process, with the aim of building a common vision for the conservation and sustainable use of marine resources.
