Noise Cleanup: boaters as allies of the Interreg Undersea project against marine noise pollution

Iole Leonori - CNR IRBIM, Alice Pari – FONDAZIONE CETACEA

Underwater noise pollution is one of the least visible but most impactful pressures on marine ecosystems, with direct effects on fauna and particularly on cetaceans. The conference "Noise Cleanup: boaters as allies of the Interreg UNDERSEA project against marine noise pollution" presents the European UNDERSEA project and its innovative approach based on citizen science and the active involvement of recreational boaters.
During the meeting, Iole Leonori from CNR IRBIM will illustrate the scientific context of the project, explaining what underwater noise is, its main sources, and how participatory data collection can contribute to a better understanding and management of the phenomenon. Greta Dimartino will then describe the role of boaters and coastal communities, showing how the UNDERSEA app allows those who go to sea to become active participants in protecting the marine environment.
Alice Pari from Fondazione Cetacea will moderate the discussion.
This is an opportunity to discover how technology, research, and passion for the sea can join forces to reduce noise impact and protect the biodiversity of the Adriatic.
