At Pescare Show, Patagonia presents simplicity as a fishing philosophy
Saturday, February 14, from 11:00 AM to 11:45 AM at the Talk Show Area (Hall A3), Patagonia will be present at Pescare Show with a talk dedicated to the new book "Pheasant Tail Simplicity", written by Yvon Chouinard, Craig Mathews, and Mauro Mazzo, three legendary figures in international fly fishing. The meeting will be conducted by Alberto and Marica Salvini (The Italians), with the participation of Mauro Mazzo, co-author of the book.
For Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, fly fishing is first and foremost a philosophy of life: observation, care, and respect for the ecosystem matter more than equipment. This vision guides Patagonia's debut at Pescare Show and invites everyone to experience fishing and the outdoors more consciously, honoring the natural resources that make them possible.
At the center of the talk is a vision of fishing based on simplicity: a few essential flies, constructed from a single pheasant tail feather, and a minimalist approach that invites the angler to observe more, choose better, and rely on their own skills: limiting options thus becomes an exercise in creativity, attention, and respect for the environment, refined over decades of experience.
Mauro Mazzo, co-author of Pheasant Tail Simplicity, is a reference figure in the world of fly fishing, having shared fishing experiences and research with Chouinard for over twenty years. A Master FFI instructor and contributor to specialized magazines, he will recount how Pheasant Tail Simplicity came to be and the stories that inspired its philosophy.
Craig Mathews will contribute via a short video created specifically for the fair, where he shares some anecdotes and stories related to fishing and the book, of which he is a co-author. The legendary Montana angler and environmentalist is co-founder – along with Yvon Chouinard – of 1% for the Planet. With his wife Jackie, he founded Blue Ribbon Flies, a fly shop and outfitter in West Yellowstone.
Alberto Salvini and Marica Cicoria, known as "The Italians", will moderate the talk. Fly fishing professionals for over thirty years, they narrate the world of fishing through travels, images, and stories. Freelance journalists and photographers, they are the authors of the documentary series Pescavventura and Il Diario di Pescavventura, with over 300 productions dedicated to fly fishing.
