Armando Quazzo

Biography

Armando Quazzo has been fly fishing for so long that he can no longer remember when his passion stopped being just that and turned into a declared addiction. Alongside his river activities, he has always been tying artificial flies, with the same artisanal obstinacy he devotes to writing. During his university years, he tied thousands of dozens of flies and still continues to do so today for the sheer pleasure of seeing his flies lined up in boxes, as well as to put them to the test in water (aqflies on Instagram). As a freelance author, he has published articles in Italian, Spanish, and English fishing magazines, also collaborating with American publications. He co-authored a novel dedicated to Atlantic salmon, surprisingly translated into Chinese, confirming that stories of rivers and fish travel better than one might imagine. A great enthusiast of two-handed rods and Spey casting, he considers salmon fishing an advanced form of meditation and a decent excuse to spend a lot of time standing in cold water. He nurtures the project — so far not officially shared with the family, except for the cat — of retiring one day to Norway to fish for salmon while dispensing flies in the great northern rivers. In the meantime, he writes, fishes, makes mistakes, and gladly recounts his own errors, convinced that they are the most instructive part of the experience.
