Biography

Greta Di Martino is a third-year PhD student in marine acoustics. She is enrolled in the doctoral program "Innovative technologies and sustainable use of fish and biological resources in the Mediterranean Sea" (FishMed-PhD) at the Alma Mater Studiorum of Bologna (BO). She is also associated with the Institute of Marine Biological Resources and Biotechnologies of the National Research Council (IRBIM-CNR) in Ancona (AN), where she collaborates with the acoustics group. The main theme of her doctoral research is the study of the underwater soundscape in the area in front of the Conero Park in the Adriatic Sea, focusing on biological vocalizations emitted by local fish species. She has collaborated with the University of Lisbon to study and develop a model for the automatic identification of fish vocalizations. She took part in an oceanographic campaign organized by Portuguese research institutions for the acoustic monitoring of cetaceans. Thanks to the collaboration with IRBIM-CNR, she participated in three MEDIAS (MEDiteranean International Acoustic Survey) oceanographic campaigns to study the biomass of small pelagic fish using an echosounder aboard a research vessel in the Adriatic Sea. In one of them, she was responsible for the biological laboratory. She graduated in biological sciences and obtained her master's degree in marine biology from the Marche Polytechnic University. She completed an internship at the zoology laboratory of UNIVPM and a field monitoring activity with the Ornis Italica association on the Island of Linosa. During her degree, she attended the PADI Open Water scuba diving course. In 2016, she obtained her diploma from the human sciences high school in Fano (PU). She is a member of Fano Università del Mare, a non-profit association specialized in the dissemination of marine biology. She has given lectures in elementary and high schools. She has organized public dissemination events inviting Italian experts.
