My name is Luigi, born in Salerno and now living in Naples. I’ve been an angler since I was a child. I started my adventure in freshwater sport fishing with my parents, using natural baits and a float to target fish like rudd, sardines, bleak, chub, crucian carp, and carp. The chub was the first fish I caught using a spinning lure—the legendary MEPPS—and that’s when my passion for spinning was born. I always saved a little time for it on every trip.
The first true predator that fascinated me was the black bass, thanks to its ability to strike a wide variety of artificial lures. Along with a group of friends, we explored lakes across southern Italy in search of new fishing adventures. But discovering the world of saltwater spinning marked a turning point that greatly expanded my horizons.
Always drawn to fishing in river mouths and on the beach, I explored the coastlines of Campania, characterized by rivers of various sizes and conditions. I gradually learned about the environment, the habits of predators, and the seasonality of their activities. It wasn’t an easy learning path—there was little information available and meeting other anglers was rare. After months of attempts and many blanks, I finally started to get results—a period that tested my determination and desire to improve.
I work in the automotive industry, and thanks to work-related travel, I’ve had the chance to meet new fishing friends and test fishing spots both in Italy and abroad. I grew up in a transitional era, between traditional fishing and the rise of the internet, experiencing first-hand the evolution of the sport—from the limited use of artificial lures to their massive spread thanks to online shopping.
In the past, fishing shops didn’t offer the wide range of lures and gear we have today, so we improvised with homemade modifications to meet our fishing needs. The internet made it possible not only to buy equipment from anywhere in the world but also opened the door to sharing and learning through thematic forums. That’s how Planetspin (www.planetspin.it) was born—initially as a forum for enthusiasts, and then evolving into a true online reference point.
Thanks to Planetspin, I’ve met countless anglers from all over Italy, eager to learn and grow. I’ve produced video tutorials on the YouTube channel PLANETSPIN FISHING, collaborated with fishing gear companies, and organized events and meetups across the country—moments of connection that strengthened the community and spread a passion for artificial lure fishing, along with respect for nature and its inhabitants.
The techniques I practice range from spinning and bass fishing to kayak fishing, both in saltwater and freshwater. My favorite targets include sea bass, tuna, trout, barracuda, and above all, bluefish—a predator that never fails to thrill. I’ve competed in national and international tournaments, experiences that have helped me improve and refine my fishing strategies even further.
Today, even though time is more limited, I continue to pursue this passion with the same enthusiasm as in the beginning. I’m currently focusing on writing technical articles, with the goal of making even the most advanced concepts more accessible and helping those who are new to spinning achieve real results.
If you love fishing and want to be part of a true community of enthusiasts, follow us at www.planetspin.it and on our social media channels: YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. I look forward to sharing this extraordinary adventure with you!
