The Carnia Fishing Guide Association was established in 2024 as the result of the development of a tourism project promoted by seven municipalities in the Carnia region (Forni Avoltri, Paularo, Forni di Sotto, Sauris, Forni di Sopra, Sappada, and Arta Terme).

The project aims to foster tourism development in mountainous areas through fishing, a form of tourism that has already been successfully adopted for several years in regions such as Trentino, Austria, and Slovenia.

In most cases, fishing activities rely on fly fishing techniques, with catch-and-release practices. The project positions itself in the mid-to-high segment of the tourism market, with a particular focus on international visitors.

The Carnia Fishing Guide Association brings together the fishing guides operating within the Carnia territories—currently nine guides—and is responsible for promoting the region not only from the perspective of fishing and river environments, but in a comprehensive way that encompasses all activities available in the Carnia municipalities, including hospitality and food and wine experiences. All promotional activities are carried out through the production of brochures, informational banners, and audiovisual materials, which are distributed both nationally and across international markets.

The guides who are part of the association have all received formal training and come from various municipalities, not exclusively within the Carnia area.
