My name is Ilaria Barbieri and I was born in Parma in 1976. Since I was a child I loved the mountains and, when I started fly fishing in 2010, it was very spontaneous for me to get in touch with the stream.
I practice this sport, which is now a lifestyle, in full respect of the environment and only in catch & release, because it allows me to satisfy a strong impulse of contact with nature, but also an atavistic predatory instinct: I love to fish hunting in the streams of the Alps and the Apennines.
The shoal is my first love, but I think fly fishing has wider boundaries that I am exploring: I faced trout in all kinds of environments, chubs and chepps. Thanks to my boyfriend I improved my knowledge of modern nymph and bass fishing, thanks to my best friend my passion for pike and the construction of its baits .
What drives a woman to spend hours at the clamp and to trouble in one of the physically and psychologically hardest fishing technique? I think anyone who has met the gaze and jaws of this predator can understand it. I make pike flies not only because I find the particular technical and aesthetic path stimulating and rewarding, but above all because I feel the adrenaline going up at the thought of an attack.
I participate in this edition of Fly Tying Experience to share experiences and emotions, with the enthusiasm and humility of those who have more to learn than to teach, grateful for this exciting opportunity.
I wait for you together with the other builders at the Fly Tying Experience.
