XXIII Big Game Trophy

The Città di Rimini Trophy celebrates Big Game fishing through competition, sustainability and a passion for the sea

The XXIII Città di Rimini Trophy – Big Game Drifting Catch & Release, 2nd Roberto Sancisi Memorial has come to a close at the Rimini Nautical Club. The event has by now become a landmark gathering for enthusiasts of offshore sport fishing in the Adriatic Sea.

An event that, year after year, continues to stand out for its ability to combine competition, respect for the marine environment, and a genuine spirit of camaraderie among crews and anglers.

The 2026 edition was won by Ropotnica, the boat skippered by Gianfranco Santolini, President of the Rimini Nautical Club. Together with his crew, he claimed the top spot on the podium with 1,000 points, earned thanks to two valid releases. Finishing behind them were Bayu, skippered by Fabiano Franceschi, and Intrepid, skippered by Nicola Del Governatore, both with 700 points.

The Catch & Release format once again took center stage at the event, representing a key element of modern, sustainable Big Game fishing. Catches are documented and validated according to precise procedures, allowing participants to experience all the excitement of competing against large marine predators while ensuring that the fish are released and the marine ecosystem is protected. This philosophy demonstrates how sport fishing can be practiced responsibly, contributing to the conservation of biodiversity and the protection of the sea's natural resources.

Beyond the competitive aspect, the Città di Rimini Trophy once again proved to be an important gathering for the sport fishing community, encouraging the exchange of experiences and strengthening the strong bond that brings Big Game fishing enthusiasts together.

Among the special awards presented during the prize-giving ceremony, special recognition went to Antonio Martelli's crew aboard Whaler, which was awarded for having a female crew member on board. Bayu also received an award for having the youngest competitor in the event. Particularly meaningful was the award dedicated to the memory of Giorgio Savorani, which this year was presented to Andrea Muti as a tribute to his passion and dedication to the sport.

What made the weekend even more special was the traditional social gathering that accompanied the competition, showcasing some of the finest local specialties from the Romagna region and confirming how events of this kind can build connections and foster a sense of community well beyond the sporting result.

The XXIII Città di Rimini Trophy thus comes to a close with a sport fishing community that is increasingly committed to sustainability and a culture of the sea, highlighting the value of events that successfully combine tradition, innovation and respect for the environment.
