Copper Beetle

Copper Beetle

Fabrizio Gajardoni shows us how to tie a Copper Beetle. Here is the Fly Tying tutorial straight from Pescare Show.

Materials:

  • Hook: Tiemco 2312 #6/8

  • Thread: Semperfli Nano Silk Black 50Den

  • Body: Semperfli Peacock Herl Synthetic 4 mm

  • Elytra (wing cases): 3 mm foam with synthetic sheet applied

  • Legs: Black plastic tubing

  • Antennae: Two natural peacock herls

Steps:

  1. Secure the hook in the vise and tie in the shaped foam with the tying thread.

  2. Tie in the synthetic peacock herl on the hook, then attach the three legs. Tie in the two natural peacock herl antennae.

  3. Apply a small drop of cyanoacrylate (super glue) where the legs have been secured.

  4. Wrap the peacock herl up to the second pair of legs and secure with thread.

  5. Apply Max Repair glue on the back of the foam and on the body, fold the foam forward, and secure with thread. Repeat the same operation on the front part of the beetle.

  6. Finish with a whip finish knot.

Your Copper Beetle is ready!
