Super Terrestrial

Marco Feliciani teaches us how to tie a Super Terrestrial!

Materials:

  • Thread: strong, at least 8x, in black, dark brown, or white

  • Hook: heavy streamer hook, sizes #8 to #2/0

  • Underbody: 2 mm foam strip (gray or tan), fixed along the hook shank with cyanoacrylate glue and secured with thread

  • Tail: micro chenille, 4 to 7 cm long depending on hook size, in tan or dark gray

  • Body: synthetic yarn, flat on one side and with ~5 mm fibers on the other, in medium/dark gray or tan/gray

  • Ears: 1 mm foam, shaped with scissors, in tan or dark gray

  • Head: made from the same yarn used for the body

  • Eyes: synthetic, glued on with UV resin

  • Whiskers: 4 soft synthetic strands on each side, tan or medium gray

Note: This fly is designed for large predators such as trout, black bass, or pike

Tying Steps:

  1. Tie in the micro chenille to form the tail.

  2. Apply a few drops of cyanoacrylate glue along the hook shank, wrap the 2 mm foam strip around it, and secure it further with thread.

  3. Tie in the synthetic yarn, placing the flat side on the shank; wrap multiple turns to form the body.

  4. Tie in the shaped 1 mm foam ears.

  5. Build the head using the remaining yarn.

  6. Glue on the synthetic eyes using UV resin.

  7. Tie in 4 soft synthetic strands per side to imitate whiskers.

  8. Finish with a whip finish knot and secure it with a drop of glue.

Your Super Terrestrial is ready!
