Soft Red Spinner

Paolo Penna shows us how to tie a Soft Red Spinner. Here’s the Fly Tying tutorial straight from Pescare Show.

Materials:

• Hook: straight shank #14/15

• Thread: black/brown

• Wings: CDC, light brown

• Tails: fibers from red/brown partridge feather

• Body: hare underfur dyed brick red

• Collar: natural CDC and woodcock feather

Steps:

1. Secure two CDC feathers in light brown about 3 mm from the hook eye. Mount them so they remain spread apart at about 120°.

2. Move the tying thread to the start of the hook bend and build a small bump with repeated wraps. At this point, tie in 8–12 fibers from a partridge feather so they fan out.

3. Form the body with brick-red dyed hare underfur and dubbing wax, creating a slightly conical, uniform shape. Stop just before the wings, leaving about 1 mm of space.

4. Make a collar using a small natural CDC feather, tied in by the tip behind the wings. Wrap it around the hook shank with two turns behind and one in front of the wings.

5. Add a woodcock neck feather near the hook eye, tied in by the tip. Wrap it twice around the shank toward the hook eye.

6. Finish with a whip finish knot and apply head cement.
