The Icelandic Highlands

For many anglers, the Land of Fire and Ice is synonymous with Atlantic salmon fishing. More and more fishermen, however, are discovering that Iceland is also home to wonderful brown trout and Arctic char fishing as well.

One of my favorite destinations around the world is Fish Partner’s Highlands Lodge, an ideal place to chase both brown trout and gorgeous char in gin-clear water. The rivers in the central highlands of Iceland provide anglers with plenty of opportunity for both species, with a fishing experience set in scenery reminiscent of The Lord of the Rings or another fantasy novel.

From rocky fields to dramatic, high-cliff canyons, the Highlands are home to diverse fishing for all skill levels. Anglers can expect to hike and explore, moving along steeply-walled cliffs and fishing under misty waterfalls. A day of exploring and chasing the fantastic Icelandic browns is a must-do for any trout angler.

And at the end of the fishing day it’s time to head back to the cozy Highlands Lodge for a wonderful meal cooked by Argentine chef Fabi Trochine and a good night’s sleep, before waking to do it all over again the next day.
